With our fast-track program, adult students in Mount Olive, Fayetteville, Jacksonville, New Bern, Research Triangle Park, Smithfield, Washington, Wilmington, and at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in NC meet once weekly per course for a specified number of weeks and complete a sequence of courses. Adult students are required to complete 10-15 hours of study beyond the seated weekly meetings.
APPLYING AS AN ADULT LEARNER
To apply for admission to one of the University of Mount Olive’s evening programs, adult students must submit official transcripts of all college work completed at the University of Mount Olive or other higher learning institutions. Transferred credit must be from a two-year and/or four-year institution accredited as degree granting by a regional accrediting body for higher education at the time that the coursework was completed.
A degree completion plan will be developed by each working adult student and his or her academic advisor and must be approved by the Registrar.
First-time students in the evening program (adults over the age of 21 with no previous college experience) may enroll in our General Studies program with the goal of completing a bachelor degree or choose to work specifically toward an associate degree. These courses provide the foundation and preparation for a number of academic majors and include introductory coursework in a variety of liberal arts disciplines, such as:
- English composition
- Fine arts
- Social sciences
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CREDIT
UMO recognizes that learning takes place in settings other than the traditional classroom. Such experiences may be evaluated for possible academic credit called Experiential Lerning Credit (ELC). Any credit awarded for experiential learning will apply to general electives, related studies, general education requirements, or the major provided the student can demonstrate the achievement of stated course learning outcomes.
