Biology: Veterinary Bioscience

Dreaming of becoming a veterinarian or working in animal science or research? Our Veterinary Bioscience degree gives you a strong foundation in science and allows you to choose between two tracks: Biological Sciences or Animal Science. Both paths help you check off all the right boxes for vet school requirements, so you’ll be ready to apply to top programs like NC State, Auburn, Florida, Virginia-Maryland, or Tennessee. Plus, this program opens doors to research, grad school, or even careers in science and agriculture if you decide to take a different path. The program includes a built-in Chemistry minor.

Abby Dail

“The UMO Veterinary Bioscience program truly prepared me for veterinary school. The combination of hands-on animal experience and wide range of biology courses gave me the confidence I needed both in the field and in the classroom.
What I loved most about UMO was the smaller campus and classroom size, which made it easy to connect with professors who genuinely cared about my success. Their support and encouragement gave me the confidence to believe in myself and pursue my dream of becoming a veterinarian. The knowledge I gained in biology, the practical farm experience, and even the presentations, prepared me more than I realized at the time. I would encourage future students to not just strive to get by. Whatever path you choose, strive to be the very best you can be.”

– Abby Yennie, Veterinary Bioscience Graduate, 2023
