Degree Programs for Adult Students

The University of Mount Olive provides adult students the perfect opportunity to start their college careers or further their educational endeavors toward an associate or a baccalaureate degree with our accelerated degree programs. As the #1 value in adult education, you’ll find small class sizes, caring faculty and staff, and affordable tuition rates, allowing you to reach goals you never thought possible.

Applying as an Adult Learner

To apply for admission to one of the University of Mount Olive’s programs, adult students must submit official transcripts of all college work completed at the University of Mount Olive or other higher learning institutions. Transferred credit must be from a two-year and/or four-year institution accredited as degree granting by a regional accrediting body for higher education at the time that the coursework was completed. A degree completion plan will be developed by each working adult student and his or her academic advisor and must be approved by the Registrar. First-time students in the adult program (adults over the age of 21 with no previous college experience) may enroll in our General Studies program with the goal of completing a bachelor degree or choose to work specifically toward an associate degree. These courses provide the foundation and preparation for a number of academic majors and include introductory coursework in a variety of liberal arts disciplines, such as:

  • English composition
  • Literature
  • Fine arts
  • Religion
  • Social sciences
  • History
  • Science
  • Mathematics

Experiential Learning Credit

UMO recognizes that learning takes place in settings other than the traditional classroom. Such experiences may be evaluated for possible academic credit called Experiential Learning Credit (ELC). Any credit awarded for experiential learning will apply to general electives, related studies, general education requirements, or the major provided the student can demonstrate the achievement of stated course learning outcomes.
