BS Computer Science
The University of Mount Olive’s School of Arts & Sciences, in collaboration with the Tillman School of Business, offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. The program serves our students by developing the skills and theoretical understanding of computer science so as to prepare a student to succeed in a variety of careers which involve programming, software development, and analysis of data. Students in the program will be equipped with a solid foundational education in the mathematical sciences. Students will also have the opportunity to customize their degree to add additional areas of concentration to their studies, including such diverse options as graphic design, cybersecurity and E-commerce, and advanced probability and data analysis.
Key Program Features
Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to identify alternative solutions of complex computing problems.
Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of requirements.
Apply computer science theory to solve theoretical and practical problems in mathematics, science, and related disciplines.
Make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
Students will achieve the necessary mathematics and physics background to purse a career or graduate studies in specialized fields within Computer Science. These fields include: artificial intelligence, computer graphics programming, modeling and analysis, data mining, and computer game development to name a few.
The Computer Science program offers special topic courses that can be tailored to specific interests. Students can choose from a wide variety of related studies courses with disciplines including art and graphic design, business (including e-business and e-commerce), cybersecurity, mathematics, marketing (including social media), and management information systems.
