The University of Mount Olive seeks a highly motivated, well-organized manager for the Mount Olive Regional Food Hub and Agricultural Commodity Facility based at the Kornegay Student Farm.  This position will also manage the mobile farmers markets for the UMO student farm. The position will begin immediately and is available through December 2024 with the possibility of renewing annually. The position will partner with faculty, staff, and students to grow, harvest, process, and market commodities at the University’s Student Farm. This is a full-time position with 40-hour workweeks including evenings and weekends as needed.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Center Director, Kornegay Student Farm Manager, and Agricultural faculty to manage the food hub and produce market will improve the learning environment for students and outreach efforts to the agricultural community.
  • Coordinate efforts with the director, faculty, and farm manager to work independently as assigned to implement the Farm Plan.
  • Planting, maintaining, harvesting, processing, and packaging agricultural commodities
  • Managing mobile farmers market locations and farm stands, Community Supported Agriculture subscriptions
  • Operation of farm equipment, vehicles, and other equipment
  • Ensure timely completion of tasks and projects to accomplish goals
  • Assists in the procurement of equipment, labor, materials, and services for farm plan implementation, maintenance, and improvement projects, interacting as required with users, UMO project coordinators, UMO officials, UMO maintenance personnel, and UMO faculty.
  • Assists with the recording and maintenance of farm records as required by specific agencies and organizations including food safety, organic, and other recordkeeping. Update existing reports as required for institutional purposes and governmental reporting.
  • Serve as a team member to accomplish the mission, goals, and daily responsibilities and all other assigned duties of Student Farm, Agribusiness Center, and the University.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in agriculture, business, or a related field and at least two (2) years of relevant experience
  • Experience in agricultural, produce sales/marketing, and food processing or handling
  • Must have NC Driver’s License.
