The University of Mount Olive seeks an energetic candidate for the position of Student Accessibility Manager and Traditional Student Advisor.  The Student Accessibility Manager (SAM) and Traditional Student Advisor (TSA) is a 12-month administrative position that is responsible for providing administrative oversight of Student Accessibility.  This includes interpretation of Student Accessibility documentation submitted by students (from each modality and level, Traditional, Adult, and Graduate Programs) registering with Student Accessibility, determination of appropriate accommodations, and arrangement or coordination of campus responses to access the support needs of each student.  Additional responsibilities include an advising load of first-year freshman students.

Responsibilities include:

The SAM/TSA is responsible for conducting intake and ongoing meetings for students who register and use Student Accessibility services.  Additionally, the SAM/TSA would manage the accessibility proctoring room(s), initial student grievances for Student Accessibility-related matters, and represent the Office of Student Accessibility on the Financial Aid Appeals Committee and serves as an advisor to the Student Accessibility Appeals committee.

The SAM/TSA will ensure University compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, and other federal and state regulations concerning students with disabilities.  This includes the interpretation of Student Accessibility documentation submitted by students (Traditional, Adult and Graduate Programs) registering with Student Accessibility, determination of appropriate accommodations, and arrangement or coordination of campus responses to access support needs of individual students.  This includes the following:

    • Conduct intake and ongoing meetings for students registering/using Student Accessibility services
    • Manage the accessibility proctoring room and report all incidents of academic integrity to students’ professors
    • Handle initial student grievances for Student Accessibility related matters
    • Represent the Office of Student Accessibility on the Financial Aid Appeals Committee and serves as Advisor to the Student Accessibility Appeals Committee
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changing practices and legislation in the field of disability/accessibility services.
  • Keep professional currently by participating in department and college-wide activities and training, regional NC-AHEAD, and, when appropriate, national AHEAD meetings

The SAM/TSA will develop and conduct campus-wide education, curriculum, departmental policies, and in-service training to support disability inclusion, community awareness, and retention of students with disabilities.  The SAM/TSA will use University Tracking systems to monitor and report on the number of students with disabilities, their needs, and the effectiveness of service delivery for program improvement purposes.

The SAM/TSA should have experience with advising, financial aid, and business office procedures

The SAM/TSA should have experience in assessment, budget development, management, staff/student supervision, and advising

The SAM/TSA is the content editor for Student Accessibility via the web, MOODLE, MYUMO, and social media sites.-

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 as amended, and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0
  • Must have excellent communications and presentation skills with a strong customer service orientation
