World Long Drive Champion David Mobley

MOUNT OLIVE – The 25th Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Southern Wayne Country Club. This year’s event will feature two-time world long drive champion David Mobley hitting drives for all teams.  Mobley is being sponsored by Monster Energy.
Mobley is a golf superstar that has been wowing spectators all across the United States and around the world.   He has appeared in the Big Break Dominican Republic and Big Break X Michigan, The REMAX World Long Drive Championships on ESPN, and many more.  He has also been featured on The Golf Channel, ESPN, NBC, CBS, The Speed Channel, The Discovery Channel, SportsSouth, and Fox Sports to name a few.
“Having David Mobley at this year’s tournament adds an opportunity for golfers to see a long drive champion in action,” said Tournament Coordinator Neil Price who works with Friendly Mart, the underwriting sponsor of the tournament.
The Michael Martin tournament is held annually in memory of NC Highway Patrolman, Michael Martin, a University of Mount Olive alumnus who was killed in the line of duty. The total raised since the tournament began is more than $440,000.
This year the field will be limited to the first 200 players with paid entries. Entries must be received by Thursday, August 9, 2012. The cost is $80 per player or $320 per team. The entry fee includes cart, food and beverages. The shotgun starts at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Stevens Sausage will serve fresh sausage for breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. A catered barbecue meal will be held at lunch. There will also be a silent auction.  All contributions will go directly into the Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund and the University of Mount Olive Trojan Club.
All expenses of the tournament, in excess of player entry fees, are underwritten by Friendly Mart. Friendly Mart has been in business for 36 years and has stores located throughout Eastern North Carolina. Over 100 additional sponsors, many of whom are Friendly Mart vendors, also support the event. Area businesses, golfers, friends of the College, friends of the Martin family and members of law enforcement agencies contribute annually to the event.
