Audition Dates and Requirements
All students interested in majoring or minoring in music must be accepted into the University of Mount Olive Music Department. Acceptance into the UMO Music Department is based on a student audition.
Audition Dates are as Follows
New dates to be announced.
Voice Auditions: Prepare one or two songs that would be appropriate for a solo/ensemble festival. This repertoire includes art songs, arias, folk songs, and musical theater. Students will be asked to vocalize with one of the UMO voice faculty to determine vocal range. A short sight-reading excerpt will also be performed.
Instrument auditions: Prepare two songs. Songs should be appropriate for a solo/ensemble festival. You may also select music from an etude book for your instrument. Percussionists should prepare 2 pieces – one snare drum, one on mallets. Students will also be asked to do sight-reading and play scales.
For more information, please send an email to William Ford (email@example.com) or Jonathan Saeger (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call (919) 658-7818. Students may also audition to be placed in one of our music ensembles. Students seeking scholarship money for performing in ensembles must complete an audition as well. Students that require an accompanist would ideally supply their own. If this is not possible, please bring sheet music for our accompanist if available. Accompaniment CDs or tapes are permissible if they are of high quality and do not have vocals.
