UMO Recreational Therapy Students Attend State Professional Conference

MOUNT OLIVE- Eleven University of Mount Olive recreational therapy student majors, along with Associate Professor of Recreational Therapy Dr. Janet Albers, recently attended the North Carolina Recreational Therapy Association (NCRTA) annual conference in Wilmington, NC.   The participants had the opportunity to interact with other students in their field as well as meet the national association ATRA President and executive directors of the national and state level credentialing bodies.

Gina Harris of Smyma Tennessee, a senior recreational therapy major, was recognized for her outstanding service as a student representative on the NCRTA Board of Directors.  Harris is only the second UMO RT student to hold this statewide position and honor.  UMO Recreational Therapy students Kala Overton of Goldsboro and Danielle Plante of Fuquay Varina were among four students at the conference to receive the Past President’s Scholarship.

“The students were exposed to the culture of a state professional organization, networked, and came back extremely excited about applying what they learned to their field training experiences and in the classroom,” said Dr. Albers.  “I was so proud of the professionalism they exhibited and for the students that received well deserved recognition.”
