President’s Welcome

Dear Friends,

I think we can all agree that this year has been challenging for everyone, including the University of Mount Olive.  Not since World War II has the world of higher education been so disrupted.  However, I firmly believe that new challenges also bring new possibilities.  Since joining the University of Mount Olive, I have been so impressed with the willingness of the campus community to adapt, innovate, and thrive in a world of new realities.

We often use the phrase Trojan Tough. The term epitomizes the resilience and resolve of our campus community.  Being a UMO Trojan means being part of a community that supports and helps individuals realize their dreams, even when times are tough.  I know this because of my own first-hand experience as the parent of a UMO alumnus.  My wife, Phyllis, and I saw our son, Jonathan, excel here. Beyond academics, he found UMO to exhibit a culture of caring and Christian ideals that continue to serve him well in both his personal and professional life.

At UMO, our faculty and staff understand and believe that it is a privilege to provide students, on campus or online, with a transformational education that prepares them for lives of leadership and service.  We are committed to making every sacrifice to make that happen.

As a private, Christian, liberal arts institution, we encourage all of our students to examine their faith, think deeply about questions, and put their thoughts and beliefs into action. We believe that when students are able to make connections between the academic, spiritual, and social aspects of their lives—to truly integrate them—then their lives take on a new dimension, and that is our goal and purpose.  As President, I am committed to making sure my work and the work of the entire University continues to build on that legacy of serving the whole student.

I am excited and honored to be at the University of Mount Olive.  If you are looking for an engaging, enlightening, and life-transforming experience, I firmly believe you will be happy here, too.  I invite you to become a member of our Trojan family. It has never been a better time to make your educational dreams a reality!

Sincerely,
Edward Croom, Ed.D.
President
