Business Administration: Accounting

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration: Accounting, offered through the University of Mount Olive’s Robert L. Tillman School of Business, is tailored to working adults. The transfer-friendly degree program can be completed 100% online.  Accounting, considered the “language of business,” is the process of communicating financial information about a business entity to users such as shareholders and managers and creditors. This branch of mathematical science is useful in discovering the causes of success and failure in business.

The combination of skills learned in UMO’s Accounting program – including managerial, interpersonal, accounting, and professional skills – are invaluable in the workplace.

  • The BS provides an expedited path for students interested in pursuing the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
  • Students may also petition to receive Experiential Learning Credit (ELC) for the knowledge, training, and skills they previously learned outside of the traditional academic setting.

An accounting major will receive a well-rounded liberal arts education which consists of general education classes, business classes and accounting classes. The business courses along with the accounting major courses prepare accounting majors with skills for the business world including: attention to detail, how to communicate effectively, ethical reasoning, regulatory knowledge, analytical skills, problem solving skills, critical thinking, technologically savvy, tax knowledge and public speaking.

Accounting students are eligible to complete the ethics certification and IRS VITA tax law certification. Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the following certification exams:

  • Certified Public Accountant exam (CPA Exam)
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
  • or Enrolled Agent (EA)
