Teacher Education – Residency or Licensure

The University of Mount Olive offers two options for students interested in earning teaching licensure.

Residency License: The Teacher Education Residency License program, delivered 100% online for adult students, is designed for candidates who have already earned an undergraduate degree and have been hired by a school system in North Carolina to fill a teaching position and need licensure for employment.

Licensure Only: The Teacher Education Licensure program, delivered 100% online for adult students, is designed for candidates who have already earned an undergraduate degree and now wish to obtain a license to teach in North Carolina.

Program Details

Eligibility for a Residency License requires that the candidate:

  • Has earned a bachelor’s degree
  • Has earned a 2.7 cumulative GPA on their degree
  • Has either completed 24 semester hours of coursework in the requested licensure area or passed the content area examination(s) required by the N.C. State Board of Education for the requested licensure area
  • Has been offered employment by a North Carolina school district, public charter school, or NCPreK

Eligibility for a Licensure Only program requires that the candidate:

  • Has earned a bachelor’s degree
  • Has earned a 2.7 cumulative GPA on their degree
