Doctor of Education: Educational Leadership (K-12 Supervision)
The University of Mount Olive announces our newest program and inaugural doctorate degree, the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Educational Leadership (K-12 Supervision). The program is approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The Ed.D. in Educational Leadership prepares innovative, collaborative, effective, and reflective educational leaders with the refinement of skills and training necessary to advance in senior-level leadership positions in K-12 education environments. Graduates will be prepared to cultivate school and district environments to ensure equitable and quality learning opportunities as well as continual program improvement. Delivered in a hybrid model of instructional delivery through face-to-face and online learning experiences, motivated and organized students can earn their doctoral degree in as little as three years. A required internship takes place during the sixth semester, providing practical application and refinement of learned skills. The 60 credit hour program can be completed in about three years, depending on time to complete the dissertation.
Key Program Features
The Ed.D. in Educational Leadership Program Learning Outcomes (PLO) are aligned to the North Carolina Standards for Superintendents that are required of educational administrators by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The PLOs demonstrate direct alignment to the evaluation rubric that is used to measure administator effectiveness in North Carolina.
Demonstrate an understanding of the purpose and development of school district mission and mission.
Demonstrate an understanding of the purpose and development of school distric strategic plans.
Demonstrate research and evidence-based strategic decision-making.
Demonstrate knowledge of the complexities of strategically re-imagining the district’s vision, mission, and goals.
Program Details
- Each fall, 15 candidates will be selected for participation in the program.
- The program is set up in a manner that provides time and guidance for dissertation work.
- The cohort structure of the program generates collegiality and creates a professional network of support for years to come.
- Upon enrollment, all students will receive a laptop and will be able to keep the laptop upon program completion.
The University of Mount Olive Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership has received approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Upon completion of the program, students who hold a North Carolina administrative and/or supervision license(s), are eligible to upgrade those license(s) to Level D and obtain a North Carolina Superintendent’s license.
Candidates for the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) degree must meet the following admission requirements to be considered for the program:
- Submit a completed online application
- Hold a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. or international institution in an education-related area
- If you graduated from a college/university other than UMO, you will be required to submit official transcripts showing conferral of a 4-year bachelor’s equivalent degree and graduate master’s degree from degree-granting institutions
- 3 years of proven educational leadership and/or supervisory experience
- Attend an interview with members of the University of Mount Olive Education Department
- A letter of recommendation/support from the applicant’s current Superintendent
