24th Annual Michael Martin Golf Tournament Set
The 24th Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is set for Thursday, August 18, at Southern Wayne Country Club. The tournament is held annually in memory of NC Highway Patrolman, Michael Martin, a University of Mount Olive alumnus who was killed in the line of duty. Last year’s tournament raised over $50,000. The total raised since the tournament began is more than $392,000.
Tee times for this year’s four-man super ball tournament, sponsored by Friendly Mart Food Stores, will be at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Stevens Sausage will serve fresh sausage for breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. A catered barbecue meal sponsored by Sunburst will be held at lunch. Hot dogs and sausage dogs will be served throughout the day. The entry fee is $100.00 per player or $400 per team, which includes cart, food, and beverages. Entries must be received by Thursday, August 11. The field will be limited to the first 200 players with paid entries. There will also be a silent auction in conjunction with the tournament. All contributions will go directly into the Michael Martin Memorial Scholarship Fund and the University of Mount Olive Trojan Club. All expenses of the tournament, in excess of player entry fees, are underwritten by Friendly Mart.
“We are appreciative of all the support we receive for this tournament. It is a great event for a wonderful cause,” noted Neil Price, tournament coordinator. “We invite all area golfers to join us in honoring the memory of Michael Martin and in supporting scholarships and the Trojan Club at University of Mount Olive.”
