It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Pam Wood, beloved former Director of Library Services at the University of Mount Olive, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, following a brief illness.
Funeral Arrangements
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church in Four Oaks, NC. Rev. Rodney Wilson will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will take place from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM

A Life Dedicated to Service
Born on March 9, 1948, in Harnett County, NC, Pam Wood dedicated her life to education, faith, and community service. A graduate of Four Oaks High School, she earned her AA degree from Mount Olive Junior College, a BS in Library Science from Appalachian State University, and a Master’s in Library Science from North Carolina Central University.
Pam Wood joined the staff at Moye Library as a freshman at Mount Olive Junior College in 1966. After earning her degrees, she returned in 1970 as Assistant Librarian, eventually becoming the Director of Library Services in 2003. She served the University for an extraordinary 53 years, retiring with Emeriti Status in 2024.
Under her leadership, Moye Library grew from housing 12,000 book volumes to providing access to over half a million resources, including digital and electronic materials. Her innovative spirit and unwavering dedication to students, faculty, and staff left an indelible mark on the University of Mount Olive.

Pam’s love for books, her meticulous nature, and her kind heart made her a guiding light at Moye Library and within the University community.

Pam’s impact extended beyond the library walls, touching countless lives through her work, her faith, and her generous spirit. She was a devoted member of Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church, serving in various roles throughout her life. Pam leaves behind a legacy of unwavering dedication, faith, and love for her community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. The University of Mount Olive community extends its heartfelt condolences to Pam’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
