MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive will host the annual Braswell Lecture on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in Southern Bank Auditorium. This year’s featured speaker will be Maurice “Mo” Green, North Carolina’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Green is committed to ensuring that all students in public schools have access to a high-quality education. As State Superintendent, he strives to create a brighter future for students, educators, and communities across the state. With more than 20 years of experience in North Carolina education, Green has served as a school district superintendent and deputy superintendent in two of the state’s three largest districts, as chief executive of a major foundation supporting public education, and as a school board attorney.

A double graduate of Duke University, Green holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics and a law degree. He is married and has two adult children, both graduates of North Carolina public schools.

Since its inception in 1998, the Braswell Lecture has brought together educators, students, and community leaders to discuss significant issues shaping the field of education. Each year, a distinguished North Carolina educational leader is invited to present insights that honor the teaching profession and inspire continued growth in academic excellence.

The lecture is held in memory of Jessie Dail Braswell, who dedicated 34 years of her life to teaching in the Princeton public schools. Her commitment to education lives on through the Jessie Dail and Walter Vernon Braswell Endowment, which funds both the annual lecture and the Braswell Scholarship program benefiting education majors at the University of Mount Olive.

The University of Mount Olive is a private institution rooted in the liberal arts tradition with defining Christian values. The University was founded by the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists. For more information, visit www.umo.edu.
