Armstrong to Perform at University of Mount Olive on October 15
MOUNT OLIVE – Tuesday, October 15, is the date set for the next Faculty Recital presented by the University of Mount Olive Music Department. Dr. Alan Armstrong, cellist, will be joined by adjunct string instructor Christopher Ellis, violinist Dee Braxton-Pellegrino, and violist Jane Yeager for two mammoths of the string quartet literature: Schubert’s Quartet in A minor, Op. 29 and Beethoven’s Quartet in C minor, Op. 18 No. 4.
“I have chosen these two works because of their incredible lyricism, dramatic flare, and emotional appeal,” says Dr. Armstrong. “The string quartet as a performance ensemble is one of the best conveyors of these attributes because each performer is an equal participant in an on-going musical conversation. At one point the first violin may have the floor, for example, but then the rest will join in, fervently arguing about the topic, or agreeing whole-heartedly with the others in perfect harmony.”
The Tuesday, October 15, event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM at the Mount Olive Assembly Hall, located at 205 Wooten Street. The event is free. For more information, contact Dr. Armstrong at a1armstrong@moc.edu.
