Alumni Spotlight

The UMO Biomedical Science program was instrumental in shaping my understanding of the scientific approach. From courses that deepened my knowledge to my undergraduate thesis that honed my research skills, my time at UMO was both inspiring and motivating.

I chose UMO for its small class sizes, strong teacher-student interactions, and research opportunities across North Carolina. My professors were knowledgeable, patient, and remain incredible mentors even after graduation.

At UMO, I gained essential skills in literature review, methodology, data analysis, and manuscript preparation—all of which I now use as a Master of Science in Global Health student at Duke University. I have spent this past summer conducting research in Uganda focusing on the prevalence of pain crises among sickle cell disease patients on a certain class of medication.

UMO gave me the foundation and confidence to pursue my goal of bridging research and medicine. I wholeheartedly recommend it to students seeking professors and staff who genuinely care about their academic, personal, and professional growth.”
