Faculty Art Exhibition At Mount Olive College

MOUNT OLIVE—University of Mount Olive will feature an exhibition entitled “Eclectic Ephemera: The Art of Advertising” in the Teresa Pelt Grubbs Fine Art Gallery located in  Laughinghouse Hall.   The exhibition will run from February 2, 2012 until March 16, 2012.

The exhibition features the artwork of Steve Simmerman, assistant professor of art and visual communication at University of Mount Olive.   The show will feature vintage-style graphic design posters created by Simmerman.  “I use stylized illustration and hand-lettering to tell a story,” states Simmerman. “Much of my work addresses the gimmicks of advertising and its power of persuasion, often using simple icons and carefully crafted language.”

An opening reception for the show will be on Thursday, February 2, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.  The public is invited to attend the opening and the show. Both galleries are open to the public at no charge from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday and by special appointment. For more information, please contact Bob Murray at 919-658-7183.
