First MBA Graduates to be Hooded at UMO

MOUNT OLIVE – “Academically rigorous,” “personally and professionally challenging,” and “intense, but rewarding” are a few phrases that the first class of 12 MBA students have used to describe their graduate level educational experience at the University of Mount Olive.  The inaugural class, which began their studies in January, will be hooded during graduation on December 13, at 2 PM in Kornegay Arena.

Norman Crumpacker, chair of the Business Solutions Division and an academic advisor, said, “This is an exciting time.  The first graduating MBA class is a momentous occasion for the Tillman School of Business and for the University of Mount Olive.”

According to Crumpacker the next thing on the horizon for the MBA program, which is currently completely online, will be a hybrid option with partially online and partially seated MBA course offerings.

Of the students currently enrolled in the MBA program, 94% earned their undergraduate degree from UMO.  Alisha Woodall of Newton Grove is one of those students.  Talking about her MBA experience, Woodall said, “The most challenging part of the journey for me was balancing the time within the program and the demands of working in retail.  It was very hard to do, but I did it.  The most rewarding part of the program was being able to pass every class and beat the challenge.”

Francisco Rivas-Diaz of Wallace earned his undergraduate degree from UMO in May of 2013 and immediately enrolled in the MBA program.  He said, “I decided to enroll in the University of Mount Olive MBA program because I truly enjoyed my experience as an undergraduate student at UMO.  The previous program was challenging and a great learning experience. The teachers taught quality classes and I felt that my degree had great value coming from a university with the history and exposure that UMO has.”
