Gorman to Speak at Annual Vivian Harrison Lecture
MOUNT OLIVE – The 24th Annual Vivian Harrison Memorial Lecture will take place at The University of Mount Olive on March 10 and 11. The speaker will be Michael J. Gorman. The lectures will take place at 7PM on March 10, and 9AM on March 11, followed by a worship service. Both lectures will be held in Rodgers Chapel on the University campus.
Gorman, an expert in the writings of Paul and John holds the Raymond E. Brown Chair in Biblical Studies and Theology at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore. He is also the former Dean of the Ecumenical Institute of Theology. He has authored over 10 books in biblical studies and theology including Reading Revelation Responsibly.
The theme for this year’s lecture will follow the same lines as the aforementioned book involving a responsible reading of the book of Revelation. The purpose of the lecture is to provide a medium for continuing education for the ministers and laypersons of North Carolina.
The Vivian B. Harrison Lecture was established by the Reverend Frank R. Harrison in memory of his late wife. The purpose of the lecture is to provide a medium for continuing education for the ministers and laypersons of North Carolina.
Harrison was a graduate of Mount Olive College and Barton College, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She taught public school in North Carolina for 17 years before retiring in 1986 due to illness.
