Kieffer to Serve as Nurse of the Day at the NC General Assembly

Raleigh, NC (May 2014) –North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) member, Joy Kieffer, PhD, RN, CCTN, will be the Nurse of the Day at the North Carolina General Assembly on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Kieffer, from Winterville, will be in charge of overseeing the health and well-being of everyone in attendance on this day.

The Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Mount Olive, Kieffer will provide services such as taking vital signs, checking blood pressures, and dispensing over-the-counter drugs as needed. Her presence will help ensure quality healthcare is available to lawmakers, legislative staff, and members of the public at the state legislature.

“As a leader in higher education in nursing, I chose to serve as Nurse of the Day to represent nurses in North Carolina and have the opportunity to sit in on legislative sessions,” Kieffer said.

For the over 15 years, NCNA has arranged for Nurse of the Day volunteers to work at the State Legislative Complex whenever the General Assembly is in session. Their services have been needed on regular basis during these volunteer shifts, and many NCNA members expressed that the experience validated their choice of the nursing profession.
