Lenoir County Student Receives Award at University of Mount Olive
MOUNT OLIVE- Sharon Mervin of Kinston has received the Outstanding Literature Student of the Year Award at University of Mount Olive. Mervin, a senior English major, is the daughter of John and Mary Mervin. She is the mother of Suma Evans, 17; Basil Evans, 15; and Noa Evans, 10. She is secretary of Sigma Tau Delta, reporter for Phi Beta Lambda, and her flash fiction has been published in Obsidian: Literature in the African Diaspora. She also writes a weekly newspaper article for the Mount Olive Messenger and has interned in the Office of Public Relations at University of Mount Olive.
The Outstanding Literature Student Award from Sigma Tau Delta is presented to the best literature student chosen by Language and Literature Faculty. The student must demonstrate a love for literature shown by wide reading beyond required course work, an ability to analyze literature, possess good writing skills, and enthusiasm in sharing love of literature with others.
