Mecklenburg County Resident Receives Award At Mount Olive College
MOUNT OLIVE – Jared Gant of Charlotte received the Sophia H. Potts English Award at University of Mount Olive’s Annual Awards Ceremony. Gant is a freshman English communications major.
The Sophia H. Potts English Award is a scholarship established in 1983 by Dr. James Alton Cowan in memory of his teacher Sophia H. Potts (1908-1982), who taught English and speech at MOC from 1956-1959. The award is given to a rising sophomore selected by the English faculty for excellence in writing.
