MOC to Host 2011 Winter Glitz
MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive Alumni Association is making plans for its annual Winter Glitz scheduled for Saturday, February 26th, 2011 at 6:00 PM in the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. The theme for this year’s event is Experience Savannah: A Glimpse into the Olde South. The evening will include special entertainment, a meal of southern cuisine, and carriage rides.
“It’s going to feel like you’ve stepped back in time into an old plantation house in Savannah,” says Francine Cooke, Co-chair of the event committee.
As part of the evening’s festivities a silent auction will be held to raise money for student scholarships. According to Rhonda Wiggins, co-chair, the auction this year will feature a great variety of items.
“There will be something for everyone, in all price ranges and all very unique things,” she says.
Items for bid will include gift certificates, weekend getaways, electronics, handmade crafts, and a one-of-a-kind painting created and donated by University of Mount Olive art student Chris Allen.
Entertainment for the evening will feature dueling pianos by Tom Casey and Gloria Wallace Edwards, as well as some special guest appearances by local celebrities. Dianne Riley, Director of Alumni Relations, says there will be another unique element to this year’s event.
“Our guests will get to meet and talk with endowed scholarship recipients- they will get to see exactly where there money is going and who they are supporting.”
Previous Winter Glitz events have raised almost $56,000 for student scholarships. “The goal for this year’s event is to exceed last year which would put us in excess of $76,000 in four years,” Riley stated. “Each year we are more and more successful, and we hope to keep this trend going.”
Cost for the evening is $50 per person. This year, there will be tables for 8 and for10. Winter Glitz, a black tie optional, reservation only event is open to the public.
