Mount Olive College Collegiate FFA Members Attend Conference
Ten University of Mount Olive Collegiate FFA members recently attended the Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Ranchers convention in Raleigh. The convention addressed issues facing farmers and offered education and information to help attendees navigate through these challenges. Numerous workshops including safety awareness, farm equipment laws, legislative updates, and additional regulations.
Mr. Larry Wooten, President of the NC Farm Bureau recognized the University of Mount Olive coalition and noted their continuing participation in efforts to help and support Farm Bureau. Many of the students attending had participated in the Farm Bureau Collegiate Discussion Meet and will participate again this year.
“This was the first time I have attended the Young Farmer and Rancher Conference,” commented Larry Edwards, a junior agriscience education major. “I really enjoyed the workshops, learned a lot and met some new people involved in the business of agriculture. It was a really good experience”
Additionally, the State Farm Bureau Office in conjunction with the Wayne County Farm Bureau office provided support for Joshua Singleton, a University of Mount Olive agriscience education senior, to attend the American Farm Bureau Federation Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. Singleton attended numerous workshops related to agricultural issues, tours were conducted to various agricultural enterprises and he was able to observe the American Farm Bureau Collegiate Discussion Meet finals.
“It was a great experience for me,” Singleton said. “I brought back a lot of information and ideas from the conference. I sincerely appreciate the support of Farm Bureau which allowed me to attend the conference and their continued support of our agricultural programs here at University of Mount Olive.”
