Representative Larry Bell to Speak at Annual UMO Braswell Lecture

MOUNT OLIVE – The annual Braswell Lecture at the University of Mount Olive will be held on March 27 at 7:30PM in the Southern Bank auditorium. The guest lecturer for this year’s event will be Representative Larry Bell.  His lecture centers around education in the current political arena.

Bell is a Democratic member of the North Carolina General Assembly, where he represents the state’s twenty-first House district, including constituents in Sampson, Duplin and Wayne Counties. Bell is a retired school superintendent and education consultant. Currently, he is serving his 7th term.

The Braswell Lecture is held annually in memory of Jessie Dail Braswell. Braswell taught in Princeton public schools for 34 years and demonstrated a life-long commitment to education. The Jessie Dail and Walter Vernon Braswell Endowment funds the Braswell Scholars, the largest scholarship program at Mount Olive College. Since 1998, the Braswell Lecture has featured leaders in North Carolina education and presented speeches on significant issues.
