Study Shows a Degree from UMO is a Good Investment

MOUNT OLIVE – Any college graduate can tell you that earning a degree is an investment in both time and money. But are the rewards worth the costs? That is a question often pondered by students, parents, and institutions of higher learning. According to a study by Georgetown University on college return on investment (ROI), the University of Mount Olive is a great value for the cost. In fact, UMO scored about 70% higher than most of the 4,500 of public and private institutions ranked in the survey.

The study notes that on average, workers with a bachelor’s degree make 80 percent more than workers with no more than a high school diploma. Of the North Carolina private colleges and universities in the study, UMO scored a 165% earnings price return on investment as compared to 136% by Duke University and 88% by Campbell University.

In a statistical report prepared by the North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities for the 2018-29 academic year, the average cost of attending any one of the 36 private colleges and universities in North Carolina is $30,026 including tuition and fees. However, UMO is considerably less, coming in at only $20,600. In fact, in a list compiled by affordableColleges.com, UMO ranked one of the top most affordable and highest quality college in the United States.

“Our prices are very competitive and in line with many of the state’s public institutions,” said Vice President for Enrollment Tim Woodard. “Factor in the scholarship opportunities available to our students, UMO is one of the best bargains in higher education in North Carolina. And, by offering over 100 majors, minors, and concentrations, many of which are fully online, we have something to fit most any career path.”

Beyond being a great bargain, a degree from UMO offers attendees a number of other benefits, including the opportunity to excel outside the classroom. UMO has 22 highly competitive NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic teams, countless clubs and organizations, and a strong commitment to community service.

“The University of Mount Olive is indeed a great investment,” notes UMO President Dr. David Poole. “UMO is one of the most unique, fastest growing, and most affordable private educational institutions in North Carolina. Whether a student is getting ready to graduate from high school, wanting to transfer to a new college setting, or is a working adult, UMO provides students with programs to fit their individual needs in a time and setting convenient for any lifestyle.”
