UMO Alumnus Receives Prestigious Scholarship from NC State University

MOUNT OLIVE- University of Mount Olive alumnus Johannes Moolman of Somerset West, South Africa, was accepted into North Carolina State University’s master of accounting (MAC) program. In addition to his acceptance, Moolman was also one of three students in the program to receive a full-ride scholarship from NC State.

During his time at UMO, Moolman worked as a resident advisor (RA), served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for three years, served on the freshman reading selection committee for two years, and played for the Trojan tennis team as a team captain. Moolman also found great success in the classroom at UMO and was selected as the accounting student of the year by the Tillman School of business. Moolman graduated from UMO in December of 2014.

After graduation Moolman gained experience in the accounting field as a risk assurance intern at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Charlotte. His experience and academic excellence led Moolman to graduate school. After researching a variety of programs, he found the perfect fit with NC State.

“The NC State MAC program is one of the few programs that have an enterprise risk management concentration,” explained Moolman. “NC State is also one of the largest schools in NC, however, the MAC program class sizes are small and professors are able to give you personal attention. The NC State MAC program has a very good reputation among the Big 4 accounting companies.”

His hard work and dedication led Moolman to receive the 2015-2016 academic fellowship scholarship, which pays for his full tuition this year at NC State. Moolman was selected for the fellowship based on his leadership, service, experience, presence, and integrity. Moolman is set to graduate from the MAC program in May of 2016.

“With the help of the MAC program, I expect to improve not only my accounting knowledge but also my research and presentation skills,” said Moolman.  “After completing the program, I expect to be a more knowledgeable professional that is prepared to succeed in the world of public accounting. I have obtained a full-time position at PricewaterhouseCoopers and I will be working in risk assurance after completing the MAC Program.”
