UMO to Hold Thespian Explorations: Theatre through the Years

MOUNT OLIVE- The University of Mount Olive (UMO) is set to hold Thespian Explorations: Theatre through the Yearson Tuesday, December 8 at 7:30 PM in Hazel Waters Kornegay Assembly Hall. This event will offer a smattering of dramatic vignettes performed by UMO students that will be sure to entertain, enlighten, and enliven.

Thespian Explorations is an eclectic production of theatre across the ages. Since the earliest development of drama as an art form, dramatic narratives sought to bring to life images of differing perspectives and values. Dramatic vignettes offer a unique opportunity for recalling the past, living the present, and imagining the future. Although times, locations and issues shift, concerns expressed in theatre through the ages parallel many contemporary issues, highlighting the ongoing struggle to appreciate and understand the complexities of life and human relationships.

Tyanna Yonkers, John Clifton, and Jo Morgan will direct the performance. Students from the interdisciplinary course, Drama Cross-Examined, and the La Belle Epoque Drama Club, will join together to perform a variety of theatrical renditions.

“The upcoming show is more than just an evening of theatrical and musical vignettes. It’s a culmination of two years of hard work by many people to expand the arts on the campus of UMO,” noted Clifton. “It all began with the formation of La Belle Epoque Drama Club, which produced Harvey last year, leading to a new theatre class this semester, Drama Cross-Examined. Now, the club and the class have joined forces to bring us a little taste of what theatre is all about, from Sophocles to Shakespeare, from Dickens to daring improv, there’s a little something for everyone.”
