
UMO Homecoming Weekend Set for November 15-17
MOUNT OLIVE- The University of Mount Olive (UMO) will hold its annual Homecoming Weekend November 15-17. The weekend will be filled with events and activities for alumni, current students, faculty, staff, and community members of all ages.
Festivities are set to begin at 12 noon on Friday, November 15, with the annual Alumni Golf Tournament at Southern Wayne Country Club. An Alumni Board Meeting will be held at 5:30 PM in the Hennessee Room of the Holmes and Lois K. Murphy Center. The 54th annual Pickle Classic starts at 7 PM in Kornegay Arena as the UMO men’s basketball team takes on Virginia State.
On Saturday, November 16, runners and walkers will gather at 9 AM for the seventh annual 5K Trojan Trot beginning in front of Pope Wellness Center. An Alumni Awards and 50th Year Reunion breakfast is scheduled for 9:30 AM in the Hennessee Room. New this year, UMO’s Family Fun Day will be held from 11 AM to 4 PM on Kemp Commons. Festivities will range from free carnival rides and inflatables to booths selling popcorn, shaved ices, hot chocolate, and more! Three food trucks will also be included in the event to fuel the fun. UMO’s Athletics Hall of Fame Induction will take place at 3 PM in the Hennessee Room. Guests are encouraged to stop by Hazel Waters Kornegay Assembly Hall at 5 PM for a concert featuring UMO Choirs and former alumni vocalists. Wrapping up Saturday’s even-filled day will be the UMO men’s basketball team facing off against Concord at 7 PM in Kornegay Arena.
The finale of Homecoming Weekend will be held on Sunday, November 17. An alumni breakfast will be held 8:30 to 10 AM in the Hennessee Room, followed by a worship service in Rodgers Chapel.

One of the longest continuous college basketball tournaments in the nation, the Pickle Classic annually features top level NCAA Division II competition. This year’s participants are Barton, Concord, Virginia State, and UMO.
