UMO Music Faculty Showcase Set for September 17

MOUNT OLIVE- The University of Mount Olive will host the second annual Faculty Showcase Recital on Thursday, September 17, at 7:30 PM in the Hazel Waters Kornegay Assembly Hall (207 Wooten Street).

Eight UMO Department of Music faculty members will showcase their vocal and instrumental talents in a variety of styles.  This year’s lineup of performers includes Dr. Rue Lee Holms (Xylophone), Dr. William Ford (contemporary saxophone), Dr. Thomas Coleman (classical clarinet) and Edward Stephenson (guitar) as well as an Irving Berlin number performed by Dr. Carl Ashley, and later joined by his wife, Marie Ashley, in an Al Yankovic duet.  An accomplished Opera singer Marie Ashley will take the stage with accompanist Dr. Alan Armstrong to perform pieces by Puccini and Donizetti. Pianists Dr. Alan Armstrong and Dr. Franklin Gross will round out the evening with two piano four-hands pieces, “Malaguena” and “Wonderful Words of Life.”

According to Dr. Ford, there is something for everyone and every taste.  A “Meet the Artist” reception with refreshments will follow the concert on the lower level of the Music Building.  The event is free and open to the public.  For more information, visit www.umo.edu or contact Dr. William Ford at wford@umo.edu.
