MOUNT OLIVE – Forty University of Mount Olive nursing students were formally welcomed into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program during the University’s annual White Coat Ceremony.  The event marked their transition into clinical practice as juniors.

The White Coat Ceremony is a time-honored tradition in the nursing profession, symbolizing a student’s commitment to compassionate patient care, professional standards, and lifelong learning. As the students slipped into their white coats, they also embraced the responsibilities and values that accompany the journey into nursing.

“The University of Mount Olive Division of Nursing is proud to welcome the largest BSN class in our program’s history,” said Kristin Mozingo, Division Chair of Nursing and Director of the Simulation Lab. “We remain deeply committed to nurturing, inspiring, and challenging these future nurses as they embark on their journey toward excellence in healthcare.”

During the ceremony, students were individually called to the stage, where they received their white coats. Together, the students recited the “Nursing Student’s Pledge of Dedication,” vowing to uphold the standards of the nursing profession, respect diversity, foster trust, and provide quality, evidence-based care.

Loved ones in attendance also took part in the program by reciting the “Prayer of Support for Nursing Students,” asking for strength, wisdom, and protection for the future nurses as they begin their professional journey.

In her closing remarks, Mozingo reminded students of the significance of the moment:
“Today, you are officially part of the UMO nursing family. Next week you will begin a rigorous but rewarding journey. Take this time to rest and reflect, you are stepping into something extraordinary. We are proud of you. We believe in you. And we are honored to walk beside you.”
