University of Mount Olive Collegiate FFA Continues to Warm Hearts through Giving

MOUNT OLIVE – “I’m so glad that I was able to be a part of helping so many children at Carver Elementary School stay warm this winter,” said Paige Herring, sophomore CFFA member of Goldsboro. “It is fulfilling to see the impact of our work and the community’s generosity by seeing the smiles on the young students faces.”

For the eighth consecutive year the Collegiate FFA at University of Mount Olive has provided coats to needy children at Carver Elementary School.  This year’s distribution included over 160 coats, hats, and gloves.

“Coats for Kids would not be possible if it was not for the dedicated donors from the community and here on campus that look forward to giving money towards our service project each year,” remarked Alaina Airheart, a senior CFFA member from Mt. Pleasant and the Club’s student advisor. “Each year the number of coats needed grows, but so far the number of people who want to be a part of what we do by volunteering and providing funds has grown as well.”

Over $4,000 in funds was collected including a $1000 grant from the CHS Foundation, a foundation committed to investing in the future of rural America, agriculture and cooperative business through education and leadership development. “CHS is a wonderful foundation and has been faithful in funding Coats for Kids,” stated Junior David Thomas, CFFA vice president. “Founding our relationship with CHS Foundation also allowed us to begin a mentoring program to assist Carver students.”

“As always, we want to thank members of the community for their continued support of this community service project. It is certainly making a huge impact on the lives of many students, not only at Carver Elementary School, but at University of Mount Olive as well. I am blessed to be able to be a part of Coats for Kids and Collegiate FFA,” said Hannah Singleton of Goldsboro, president of Collegiate FFA.
