University of Mount Olive Free Spirit to Perform April 10
MOUNT OLIVE – On Thursday, April 10, at 7:30 PM, the University of Mount Olive contemporary gospel group, Free Spirit, will present its annual concert at the Mount Olive Assembly Hall located at 207 Wooten Street in Mount Olive. The performance is a free and the public is invited to attend.
The concert will feature arrangements of well-known hymns such as “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee,” contemporary worship anthems, Southern Gospel favorites, and several a cappella renditions of spirituals and hymns. Composers represented include Claire Cloninger, Tom Fettke, and Roger Talley.
The second half of the program will be a “sermon in song” entitled “That’s Who Jesus Is,” and will highlight Him as Creator, Healer, Savior, and Returning King.
“Free Spirit has been sharing the Gospel through music and testimony since I began the group in the spring of 1997,” says Dr. Alan Armstrong, the founder and director of the ensemble. “This concert will be a way for us to exalt the Lord for the ‘good work’ that He has done among us.”
Free Spirit, with its reputation throughout North Carolina for providing a quality mix of Contemporary, Gospel, Southern Gospel, and a cappella Christian music, is a mixed vocal ensemble of students that provides Christian music for church services, revivals, and community events.
