University of Mount Olive Holds Summer Commencement
The University of Mount Olive graduated over 160 students at its summer commencement on Saturday, August 23. Sarah Merritt, executive director of the Arts Council of Wayne County (ACWC), was the commencement speaker. She challenged the graduates to live their lives like artists…to take risks; to ask for help and advice; to embrace challenges; to never stop learning; to be curious; to surround themselves with positive, interesting, creative and supportive people; to always meet new people; to not be afraid to promote themselves; to have a hobby; to laugh at themselves; and finally to take time out.
It is a tradition at the University of Mount Olive for graduating students to walk through the Alumni Crosswalk and Nido and Mariana Qubein Garden House prior to entering Kornegay Arena. The ceremonial walk represents a manifestation of pride in the accomplishments of the University’s graduates and a symbol of their hopes, dreams and prayers for the future.
This University of Mount Olive graduate was all smiles as she prepared to walk across the stage.
