University of Mount Olive Prepares for Homecoming Weekend

MOUNT OLIVE – University of Mount Olive is hosting its 47th Annual Pickle Classic Homecoming Weekend on November 16th -17th. There will be plenty of fun activities for students, alumni and the community at large.
Homecoming weekend tees off on Friday, November 16 at 12:00 PM with the 16th Annual Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament at Southern Wayne Country Club. Registration for the tournament begins at 11:30 AM. The registration fee is $75 per player. The 47th Annual Pickle Classic basketball tournament will begin at 5:00 PM in Kornegay Arena with Fayetteville State University taking on Lenoir-Rhyne University. At 7:30 PM the University of Mount Olive men’s basketball team faces-off against West Virginia. Hwy 55 is hosting an ice cream social at 9:30 PM. The first 100 alumni to sign-up will receive free ice cream.
On Saturday, November 17th, an ultimate Frisbee game is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM in front of King-Hart-Griffin Residence Hall Complex. Immediately afterwards an alumni softball game is planned for noon on Nancy Chapman Cassell Field. At 2:00 PM the women’s basketball team is hosting Converse in Kornegay Arena, and at 3:00 PM a ceremony and dessert reception for the University of Mount Olive Athletics Hall of Fame will take place in the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. This year’s slate of inductees includes: Valerie Newborn Cox ’94, Merrill Morgan ’84, and the 1992 MOC Baseball Team
Continuing in the afternoon from 3:30 to 6:30 PM is the “Unity in Variety” senior art show in the Teresa Pelt Grubbs Gallery in Laughinghouse Hall. Pickle Classic action will continue in Kornegay Arena with Lenoir-Rhyne and West Virginia State playing at 5:00 PM. The highly anticipated alumni pre-game pig pickin’ will take place on Kemp Commons at 5:30 PM. Pre-registration is appreciated, and the cost is $10 per person. At 7:30 PM the MOC men’s basketball team will take on Fayetteville State University for the final game of the weekend. Pickle Classic tickets are $15 in advance for all games or $10 at the door for each night. Tickets for the women’s game are $6.
