The University of Mount Olive Recognizes Top Performers at Awards Program

 

MOUNT OLIVE – Several  Univeristy of Mount Olive leaders and campus organizations were recently recognized for their contributions to campus life.  Among those receiving awards were:

Society, Law and Justice Association (SLJA)  received the Club of the Year Award.    The Club of the Year Award is presented by the Student Government Association to the student organization that demonstrated the greatest contribution in an active role to the University and to the community, while also fulfilling its stated mission.  A committee of students and staff appointed by SGA chooses the recipient.Pictured receiving the award was Michael Huggins.

Sharon  Jackson, instructor of biology and advisor for Tri Beta and Henderson Science Club received the Advisor of the Year Award. The Advisor of the Year Award is presented by the Student Government Association to the student organization advisor who shows the greatest willingness to work closely with student, who helps to get students involved and who “goes above and beyond the call of duty” in working with the group.  A committee of students and staff appointed by SGA chooses the recipient.

Sandra Maddox, director of the Lois G. Britt Agribusiness Center and the division chair of agriculture, received the Outstanding Contribution to Campus Life Award. The Outstanding Contribution to Campus Life Award is presented to the faculty or staff member that has demonstrated exemplary service in contributing to a transformative campus life experience for the students.  This person has shown great personal initiative and sacrifice in contributing to the development of campus life programming on campus.  This award is presented when a faculty or staff member demonstrates great personal commitment to furthering the mission of the University through extracurricular pursuits.

The Office of Student Development received the Above and Beyond Award. Campus Chaplain Carla Williamson, who presented the award, said, “The Department of Student Affairs has gone above and beyond expectations in their service to our students. They work all hours of the day and on weekends, and they never complain. It is evident that they serve the students because they care about each one. They not only want to see students succeed but they want them live in an environment of love and safety while they work to complete their degrees.”
