University of Mount Olive Winter Glitz Brings in Scholarship Funds
MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive Alumni Association recently held its Ninth Annual Winter Glitz event to raise money for student scholarships. The theme for this year’s event was “Puttin on the Ritz,” which took guests back in time to the glamorous 1920s.
Guests were entertained by pianist Thomas Casey from the class of 2000 and vocalist Sharon Mervin from the class of 2012. Live and silent auctions were held to raise money for University scholarship funds. George Futrelle from the class of 2004 served as the event auctioneer. Alumnus Al Warrick from the class of 1969 was the master of ceremonies. Gifts are still being calculated, but a preliminary estimate shows this year’s total to be more than $14,000, bringing the nine year total for scholarship support as a result of funds raised through the Annual Winter Glitz event to be more than $180,000.
Director of Alumni Relations Hope Fields said, “This has always been one of the highlighted Alumni Association events. Everyone looks forward to dressing up and coming together for the cause of supporting student scholarships. We are so appreciative of our alumni and faithful donors who have made this event so successful over the years!”
