Wayne County Students Receive Awards at The University of Mount Olive

 

MOUNT OLIVE – Several Wayne County students were recognized for their achievements at The University of Mount Olive’s Annual Awards Ceremony.  Among those receiving awards were:

Chad Wise of Mount Olive received the The Senior Citizen Cup. Wise is a senior history major.  The Senior Citizenship Cup is presented by the Student Affairs Office to the graduating senior who has evidenced the most outstanding qualities of citizenship during his/her academic career at the University of Mount Olive.  The recipient of this award is selected by a committee of faculty, student, and staff representatives.

David Meza of Pikeville received the Computer/Management Information Systems Student of the Year. Meza is a senior business management of information systems major.  The Computer/Management Information Systems Student of the Year is awarded to a senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  The student must demonstrate a resume capturing leadership qualities, community contributions and other interest.  The award is determined by faculty from the Tillman School of Business.

Jonathan  Krusinski of Goldsboro received the Accounting Student of the Year. Krusinski is a senior business/accounting major.  The Accounting Student of the Year is awarded to a senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  The student must demonstrate a resume capturing leadership qualities, community contributions and other interest.  The award is determined by faculty from the Tillman School of Business.

Jonathan  Hubbell of Goldsboro received the The North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants Scholarship. Hubbell is a December 2014 graduate information systems management major.  The North Carolina Association of CPAs Scholarship is sponsored by the Coastal Plains Chapter of the North Carolina Association of CPAs and awarded to an outstanding senior accounting student selected by the University of Mount Olive accounting faculty.  The selection process culminates in selecting a student who demonstrates extraordinary achievement, leadership, and talent both inside and outside of the classroom.

Kevin Gillespie of Pikeville received the Human Resource Management Student of the Year. Gillespie is a  human resource management major.  University accounting faculty.  The selection process culminates in selecting a student who demonstrates extraordinary achievement, leadership, and talent both inside and outside of the classroom.

Samantha Futrelle of Mount Olive received the Handy Mart Business Scholarship. Futrelle is a sophomore business management and accounting major.  The Handy Mart Business Scholarship is sponsored by E. J. and Judson Pope who select two rising juniors majoring in Business Administration who best exhibit excellence in academics, university and community service and civic responsibility.

Brandon Lee of Mount Olive received the Handy Mart Business Scholarship. Lee is a junior business management and accounting major.  The Handy Mart Business Scholarship is sponsored by E. J. and Judson Pope who select two rising juniors majoring in Business Administration who best exhibit excellence in academics, university and community service and civic responsibility.

Bridget Barnes of Fremont received the Southern Bank and Trust Outstanding Agriculture Education Student of the Year. Barnes is a junior agriculture education major.  The Agriculture Education Outstanding Student of the Year Award is sponsored by Southern Bank and Trust. This award is presented to an outstanding  student having completed 60 semester hours and having demonstrated academic excellence, professional service, commitment to community and personal growth as determined by the Agriculture Education and Agribusiness Center faculty and staff.

Michael Feuerstein of Goldsboro received the Science Student of the Year . Feuerstein is a senior biology major.  The Science Student of the Year is awarded to an upper-class student who excels in science as determined by the Department of Biological and Physical Sciences.

Ashley Howard of Pikeville received the Early Childhood Education Student of the Year. Howard is a senior early childhood education major.  The Early Childhood Education Student of the Year is awarded to a student with a 3.0 GPA or higher who has satisfactorily completed a senior research project.  The recipient is selected by the Department of Education faculty.

Jo Turner of Goldsboro received the Art and Graphic Design Student of the Year Award . Turner is a senior art  major.  The Art and Visual Communication Student of the Year Award is given to an art or visual communication major with a minimum GPA of 3.5, who displays academic excellence, professional service, and personal growth.
