Young Farmers & Ranchers Join Fight To End Hunger

MOUNT OLIVE – The American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers & Ranchers Program is working with Feeding America to help feed the millions of Americans who face hunger through a nationwide service project coined Harvest for All. The University of Mount Olive Collegiate YF&R Committee, working in conjunction with North Carolina’s Farm Bureau Federation, was a participant in this effort.

Chairperson for the University of Mount Olive Young Farmer and Rancher Committee Edward Olive and other members of the group recently collected and donated over 1,800 lbs of canned food to the Food Bank of North Carolina.

“Collegiate YF&R, in conjunction with University of Mount Olive’s Collegiate FFA, worked together to come up with almost one ton of food to contribute to this effort,” stated Olive. “We were challenged to donate more pounds than NC State University’s YF&R and we accomplished that goal collecting almost 500 pounds more, we are very proud of that effort.”

Throughout the year, farmers across the nation will donate food, funds and people power to strive for a hunger-free America. And whether the contribution is a bushel – a dollar – or an hour, Farm Bureau and Feeding America will be working together to finish an important job – making sure every American can enjoy the bounty produced on American farms and ranches.

Collegiate YF&R is open to all junior and senior students having an interest in learning more about the issues and policies facing agriculture.
