Jason Castro and Sidewalk Prophets Perform at University of Mount Olive

The University of Mount Olive FallFest Concert 2011 presented American Idol finalist Jason Castro and GMA Dove Award winning band Sidewalk Prophets on Wednesday, September 21 to a crowd of more than 1,000 ticket holders.

Dan Sullivan, vice president for Student Development, commented on the inaugural event, “This was a great event on campus.  The entertainment was excellent, we had 40 student volunteers that did a remarkable job, and I am extremely proud of the many people that worked so hard to make this event such a success. I believe this was the first of many great opportunities to change the culture of University of Mount Olive, further enhancing our efforts to create transformative experiences for our students and the community.”

University of Mount Olive student Cameron Lenard said, “I think this event is breaking history for the College.”

Lauren King traveled from Four Oaks to attend the event.   Her friend bought her tickets.  “I have seen Sidewalk Prophets perform at Winter Jam, but it is great to have them this close.”

Mount Olive Chamber of Commerce President Tyler Barwick commented, “This is a huge event for the town, and I think it’s great to see everybody coming in and we’re excited to welcome this type of event in Mount Olive.  It’s a good thing.”

University of Mount Olive Alumnus Bob Korengay stated, I think it’s great for Mount Olive and eastern North Carolina to have such great groups that are well-known throughout the nation.  It’s exciting times at University of Mount Olive.”  Kornegay brought 22 youth from Snow Hill Free Will Baptist Church to the Concert.

There were many youth groups in attendance.  “I found out about the event from my youth pastor,” stated Marissa Brittany of Grantham who attended with her youth group from Love Memorial Baptist Church.  The event was not exclusively for young people.  Young and seasoned Christian music fans stood side-by-side singing along and praising God in what University of Mount Olive hopes will become a much anticipated annual event.

University of Mount Olive is a private institution rooted in the liberal arts tradition with defining Christian values.
