Lacrosse Officially Opens Its Season
The wait is over. University of Mount Olive announced its plans to add men’s and women’s lacrosse teams as the college’s 19th and 20th sports in the fall 2011. Coaches were hired, recruits were signed up, equipment and uniforms were purchased, practice fields were constructed, a locker room was built, practices have been held, and now one and a half years later it is time to start playing games.
The women’s lacrosse team will get things started first, opening its season at home on Thursday, February 7, at 4:00 PM, against Chowan. The college’s food services vendor and Student Affairs will host a tailgate at the game with free food and drinks. The men’s team opens its season at home on Saturday, February 16, 12:00 PM, against Young Harris. Admission is free to both games!
If you don’t know much about lacrosse? Join us for a Lunch and Learn program on Thursday, February 14, at 11:15 AM, in the Best Meeting Room, in the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center. Bring your lunch or go through the cafeteria line, then listen to a presentation by the head coaches of both teams on the rules and strategies of the game.
