Mount Olive College Presents A Candlelight Christmas Celebration

MOUNT OLIVE – On Tuesday, November 29, University of Mount Olive will celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season starting with a tree lighting ceremony on Kemp Commons at 5:30 PM.  Other activities will include carriage rides, ice skating, hot chocolate, crafts for the kids, a picture snow globe, and luminaries honoring or memorializing loved ones.

A Christ-centered service, patterned after the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, a traditional English evening service which began in Cambridge in 1918, will be held in the Lois K. Murphy Center at 7:00 PM.  It will include nine Scripture lessons that trace the history of salvation.  Each reading will be followed by a carol.  Music will be provided by the University of Mount Olive Music Department; The Mount Olive First Baptist Church Choir under the direction of  Beveryly Blackwelder; LaGrange Free Will Baptist Church Choir under the direction of Marian Kennedy; and the Sanctuary Choir and Sanctuary Bells from St. Paul united Methodist Church in Goldsboro under the direction of Alice Campbell.

The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact Carla Williamson at 919-658-2502.
