Psychology Club Honored as Club of the Year at University of Mount Olive
MOUNT OLIVE – This year the University of Mount Olive Psychology Club is the proud recipient of the 2011-2012 Club of the Year award. The Student Government Association grants the annual award to the student organization that demonstrates the greatest contribution in an active role to the College and community, while also fulfilling its stated mission.
The Psychology Club is an organization with 52 active members and is known for its focus on serving the community – particularly with assisting children and the elderly as well as those with mental and/or emotional disorders. Some of the Psychology Club’s outstanding contributions to the community included raising $250 through their bake sale towards school supplies for Spring Creek & Carver Elementary Schools. Their first silent auction raised $457 towards school supplies for Spring Creek & Carver Elementary Schools. The second one raised $140 to cover shipping cost of computers for needy children at Mount Olive Middle School and $341 to assist a family with medical bills.
A teacher from Spring Creek Elementary praised the University of Mount Olive Psychology Club stating, “I want to take this opportunity to sincerely express my gratitude and appreciation for all of the school supplies that you (they) kindly have donated to our class. The supplies are much needed and my students will enjoy utilizing them.”
