Sixth Volume of The Trojan Voices Released

MOUNT OLIVE – The sixth volume of The Trojan Voices, a collaborative journal published yearly by the Language and Literature and Visual Communication Departments at University of Mount Olive, has been published and is available for purchase. This year’s journal features poetry and short stories written by MOC students, faculty, and alumni. Lenard Moore, assistant professor of English, was the faculty advisor for this year’s publication. Dr. Sarah Clere, professor of language and literature, and Thomas Clere, adjunct instructor, assisted with proofreading.

“The highlight for me is to witness how serious and excited the students are about discussing why they select each literary work,” said Moore. “Moreover, I’m always excited to witness the finished work or published edition of The Trojan Voices.”

Gianea Bennett, the student editor-in-chief, led the editorial staff in proof-reading, editing, and making the final decision on the sections included in the journal.

“Gianea has done an excellent job,” said Moore. “The graphic designer and photographer Brianka Morgan and all of the associate editors (Aisha Atkinson, Christopher Dunn, Rebecca Moore and Candace Williams) and contributors (William Tierney, Katrina Barrera, Ahmad Pittman, John O’Quinn, R. Orta, Sharon Mervin and Kevin Cobb) have done an excellent job, too. ”

“Serving on The Trojan Voices staff is a great experience for MOC students interested in working as editors in the future,” said Bennett. “Students with stories chosen to go in the book can say that they are published writers before graduating from MOC. It works out well for everyone involved.”

As well as being a literary publication, The Trojan Voices is a great opportunity for budding graphic designers in the art department to get their design talents out in the world. MOC alumna Brianka Morgan created the cover page, as well as some designs within the publication.
