
UMO Expresses Condolences at Passing of Marvin Edwards
MOUNT OLIVE -It is with heavy hearts that the University of Mount Olive shares news of the passing of former Board of Trustee member Marvin Edwards. Mr. Edwards died on February 4, only 14 days after the death of his beloved wife, Berta. Mr. Edwards served 25 years on the Board of Trustees for Mount Olive College, now the University of Mount Olive. He was Chairman of the Board for ten of those years. A true friend and supporter of the University, Mr. Edwards not only gave of his time, but also his resources. He and Mrs. Edwards faithfully made financial contributions to UMO for over 35 years.
“As President, I want to extend heartfelt condolences to the Edwards Family of behalf of the University of Mount Olive,” said Dr. David Poole, UMO President. “Since my arrival I have heard many references to the loyalty, kind spirit, good works, and faithful service of Mr. Edwards. Having friends and supporters like Mr. and Mrs. Edwards, who believe in the mission and vision of our University, are what make our work possible.”
Mr. Edwards was owner and operator of Edwards Electric for 28 years. He is survived by his daughter, Penny Gates of Fayetteville; son, Doug Edwards (Rosa) of Wilson; and grandson, Joshua Edwards.
A funeral will be held for Mr. Edwards at 2 PM on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Wilson Memorial Service located at 2811 Fieldstream Drive N in Wilson.
