UMO at New Bern to Graduate Students Saturday

NEW BERN—On Saturday, August 29, 23 students from the University of Mount Olive at New Bern are set to graduate.  Of those graduating 18 are earning bachelor’s degrees and 5 are receiving associate’s degrees.  The University of Mount Olive at New Bern has been serving the educational needs of Craven and surrounding counties for more than 20 years.  Since opening its doors in 1993, UMO at New Bern has experienced significant growth, having graduated over 1,600 students.

The New Bern location recently held a reception for its soon-to-be graduates and their families.

“We like to celebrate our graduates locally and let them see and recognize that there are others just like them that have gone through the same process,” said UMO at New Bern Director Luis Miranda.

During the event Alumna Tharesa Lee talked with the students about the Alumni Board and how she has stayed involved with the University. Alumni Director Hope Fields addressed the group and encouraged them to stay connected to their alma mater.

Miranda said, “Graduation is always exciting because it marks the end of a chapter in our lives. Each one of these graduates is writing their own story and this chapter is finally over. No matter what the next chapter in their life – this is one chapter that they can certainly be proud of. These graduates worked hard and they earned it.”

The University of Mount Olive is a private institution rooted in the liberal arts tradition with defining Christian values. The University, sponsored by the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists, has locations in Mount Olive, New Bern, Wilmington, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Research Triangle Park, Washington, Jacksonville, and in Smithfield at Johnston Community College.  For more information, visit old.umo.edu.
