The University of Mount Olive held its opening Convocation Ceremony to welcome the Class of 2019 on Saturday evening August 22. The event was followed by a candle lighting ceremony at the Alumni Crosswalk. The lighting of the candles represents the light of learning, the sharing of Christian values, and the need for students to be living by the University Covenant. It also represents students’ connection with fellow students, both past and present.
Area Mount Olive businesses and churches set up booths, offered give-a-ways, and helped welcome students to the University of Mount Olive on Saturday.
The University of Mount Olive welcomed nearly 300 new freshmen and 80 new transfer and readmitted students during Welcome Week which started with Freshmen Move-in Day on Saturday, August 22.
