Wisniewski Receives NC Nursery and Landscape Association Scholarship

MOUNT OLIVE –University of Mount Olive senior Joshua Wisniewski of Elizabeth City in Pasquotank County has received the 2014 NC Nursery and Landscape Association Scholarship.

Growing up Wisniewski helped his stepfather with his landscape business after school and on weekends.  In high school he became active in the school’s greenhouses and nursery area, which confirmed his desire to pursue a career in horticulture.  Wisniewski is now pursuing a degree in agribusiness at the University of Mount Olive.

While a student at UMO, Wisniewski has obtained his Commercial Pesticide Ornamental and Turf Certification and is a Certified Plant Professional. In addition, he manages the UMO Fitness Garden, where he oversees a team responsible for growing fresh produce and manages the University’s plant sales.  Wisniewski serves as an officer for the Collegiate FFA team, and is an active member of the NC Farm Bureau Collegiate Young Farmer and Rancher Committee.

He has volunteered at NCNLA Trade Shows, and most recently completed an internship at Jericho Farms.

“Joshua knew from the start what he wanted to do when he came to the University of Mount Olive. He is passionate about horticulture and embraces the opportunity to further his knowledge and experience in the industry. He has been an asset to our program and will make a difference in the green industry whatever the career path he selects,” stated Dr. Sandy Maddox, Agribusiness Center director.
